Alternative Blockchain Consensus: Beyond PoW & PoS

Proof of Capacity (PoC)

PoC utilizes participants’ available storage space on their devices as a measure of their contribution to the consensus algorithm. This approach leverages storage capacity rather than computational power, making it energy-efficient and accessible to a broader range of participants.

Proof of Elapsed Time (PoET)

PoET is a consensus mechanism developed by Intel that randomly selects a participant to create a new block based on a wait time that each participant undergoes. It aims to be fair and energy-efficient by leveraging trusted execution environments (TEEs).
