This is where blockchain compliance solutions face a challenge that traditional compliance systems do not encounter in quite the same way. Regulations can contain exceptions, changing obligations, jurisdictional differences, and requirements that depend on circumstances outside a blockchain transaction. Code, by contrast, executes according to the logic written into it.

Traditional financial systems can often reverse, freeze, or modify transactions when errors or compliance concerns emerge. Blockchain-based transactions can be considerably harder to unwind.

Build for Regulatory Change

Compliance architecture also needs mechanisms for responding when rules change. This could include configurable controls, transaction monitoring, governance processes, and human review for higher-risk scenarios. The objective is not to eliminate automation. It is to prevent automation from becoming disconnected from the regulatory environment surrounding it.
